Project Summary
For the manufacturer of Titleist golf balls, Flagship follows a commercial roofing facilities management program for all of the Titleist/Acushnet Co. facilities in Massachusetts. This is a program of maintenance, repair and eventual replacement of the company’s commercial  roofing systems at multiple locations.

Project Description
A major component of the Titleist/Acushnet Co. facilities in Massachusetts is the Acushnet Ball Plant III, a golf ball manufacturing facility on the New Bedford Industrial Park. This commercial roofing facilities management program called for the replacement installation of a 130,000 sq. ft. mechanically-attached, single-ply EPDM commercial roofing system. This project involved the removal of the old single-ply roofing system and the careful placement of the new system’s 70,000 mechanically attached screws through new insulation and into a light roof deck to avoid electrical conduits running beneath the roof deck.

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) single-ply membrane is a high quality, synthetic rubber membrane that is a commercially popular solution for low-slope and flat roofs. It has many benefits - it is environmentally friendly, durable and resistant to extreme temperatures, ozone and UV radiation, quick to install, flexible enough to accommodate any movement in the building, and it is relatively low maintenance. EPDM comes in relatively large sheets which call for fewer seams in a roofing system and less labor for installation.

According to RSI Magazine, “EPDM manufacturers have ensured the product's success by continually investing in technological innovations to improve both overall performance and installation methods. . . . Providing roof systems [like EPDM] that achieve long-term performance and provide long-term security for the building owner will continue to be both the contractor's and the building owner's goal.”
